Karandaaz has provided growth capital to innovative solutions in areas of plastic waste management, efficient water management, and air quality. Portfolio information is provided below:
MyWater aims to provide clean drinking water by mineralising tap water and using AI sensors to monitor water quality in real time, and reduce the usage of plastic bottles. With Karandaaz’s support, the company is developing low-cost water purifiers for rural populations while expanding the market for AI enabled dispensers in urban areas.
Ouroboros Waste Management is addressing the environmental impact of PET bottle waste through a circular economy. With Karandaaz financing, plastic waste collection is being formalised and rPET recycling is expanded through increased production capacity.
SES&L & LUMS consortium aims to address industrial emissions at source through installation of wet scrubbers at industrial hubs in Lahore. With Karandaaz’s support, prototypes have been tested, and the product is now in the commercialization phase.
Zakovation is harnessing the power of renewable energy by using efficient water electrolysis systems for HHO (Hydrogen Oxygen) gas or Hydroxyl Gas production. This technology is installed with boilers or heat furnaces in industries, it enhances energy efficiency and reduces GHG emissions by at least 15-20%.
Suftech Innovation is deinking and demetallizing recycled plastics to produce virgin-like polymer. The scaled-up implementation of this solution is an economically sustainable and profitable route to potentially recover almost 3.6 million kg/annum of pristine polymer from plastic waste.
This Karandaaz funded company has an installed capacity to recycle 864 metric tonnes of plastic waste annually, producing 121 tonnes of virgin-like polymer in FY 2023, with 19.3 tonnes sold.
Davaam Life is manufacturing dispensing machines for domestic use liquid products. This plastic waste management project aims to influence responsible living by facilitating plastic re-use, which will reduce carbon emissions and costs linked to plastic packaging and transportation. With Karandaaz’s support, it has an annual capacity to reduce plastic usage by 25 tonnes, with 14 machines installed in the initial stages of commercialization.
Concept Loop is recycling plastics to make lifestyle products. The solution aims to formalize the plastic recycling industry, and increase the demand for plastic waste products. Concept Loop has developed pavers using plastic waste which can be used in parking lots, footpaths, or any outdoor public space. This solution has an installed capacity to recycle 15 tonnes of plastic waste per annum to produce plastic crushed blocks in construction of pavements.
National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) is developing a constructed wetland and a bio remediation facility to treat the industrial waste water from the sugar industry and use it for agricultural purposes. The proposed solution has been installed at the Tharparker Sugar Mills and will provide a natural solution to artificial eutrophication. It is an economical and sustainable option for the treatment of wastewater for the sugar industry.
National Rural Support Program (NRSP) is introducing climate-smart irrigation to improve the resilience of smallholder farmers in rain-fed agricultural areas of District Attock. This solution uses solar energy to pump river water, employing AI sensors to avoid water wastage. This irrigation system benefits 600 farmers, reduces 130 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, and lays the groundwork for replication in similar sites across Punjab and Sindh.
